One of the most legendary strains to exist in the history of cannabis, this strain barely needs an introduction! A pure indica landrace strain, Hindu Kush (sometimes referred to as Hindi Kush), is named after and native to the mountain ranges between Pakistan and Afghanistan. It was brought over to North America back in the 70s and 80s, and to this day remains one of the most popular and potent strains on the cannabis market. Its THC potency can reach a staggering 32%, delivering a powerful yet extremely enjoyable high with a plethora of effects. It has sweet yet fresh and earthy aromas and flavours, furthering the pleasure of consuming this strain! Whether you’re a novice or seasoned cannabis user, and whether you’re using for recreational or medical purposes, Hindu Kush is a crucial and legendary part of cannabis history and culture that everyone must try at least once!
The high of Hindu Kush is slow and subtle, creeping up on users progressively both cerebrally and physically before it overtakes you with a strong sense of calmness! Feelings of euphoria will wash over you, taking away any negative thoughts and stress, and as your state of happiness further elevates, peaceful relaxation will also settle throughout your body and limbs. These effects are long lasting, heavy and sedative, ultimately resulting in couchlock and sleepiness, making it an ideal choice for medical users seeking strong effectiveness to aid in the relief of a variety of symptoms or for recreational users seeking a strain that will offer a peacefully relaxing experience! Hindu Kush is particularly helpful in alleviating insomnia due to its sedative nature, and many users have reported it to be perfect for treating chronic pains including those associated with arthritis, multiple sclerosis, nausea, irritable bowl syndrome (IBS), cramps, headaches and muscle spasms. Its uplifting nature and sense of ease are also beneficial in relieving anxiety, ADD/ADHD, depression and bipolar disorder. Because of its heavy hitting effects, it is recommended for night time usage and weekends.
While Hindu Kush is a 100% pure indica strain, after so many decades of being in North America and with so much crossbreeding due to its favourable genetics, there is a huge variety of Kush strains out there, though not all are derivatives of the original as the term “kush” has become somewhat synonymous with weed. These days it can be difficult to find pure Hindu Kush, though it nonetheless still remains one of the purest strains on the market. Its THC levels have been measured to range between 22% and 32%, making it one of the most potent available, which in turn also makes its concentrates highly valuable and sought after!
Appearance & Aroma
Hindu Kush nugs are large and very densely packed. Its high amount of resin is partly responsible for its dense clusters as it is super sticky to the touch. It has a mossy appearance, with a dominant mossy olive green that is speckled with pistils of an orangey brown colour. Some phenotypes also have patches of deep purple. Due to its natural aversion to the cold mountain weather, the strain has quite an abundance of crystal trichomes, giving it a nicely frosty appearance! Hindu Kush has classic cannabis aromas and flavours that are strongly earthy, pungent and spicy, though it’s also quite fresh and fragrant for a cannabis strain. It is slightly sweet with notes of woody pine, sandalwood and musk, as well as undertones of florals. The smoke when exhaling can be a bit harsh, though this harsher effect is made up for in its great tasting blend of sweet lemons, herbs and pine!
